Beachin'

Hi Lovelies, I'm at the beach-wrapping up work for the day and staring out the window, watching our "pet deer" Bella eat grass on the dunes.  Tomorrow, I head to Holden Beach to spend a long weekend with my mama's side of the family.  So I'll be taking a mini break from the blog, but never fear I'll be back mid next week.  In the meantime, enjoy Mumford and Son's new video, "Ditmas."  I literally wish I could see them in concert once a month......have a great weekend!

Word Cuff

I think by now you know how much I love bracelets and country music....how do the two go together?!?  Holly Williams (Hank Williams Jr.'s daughter and amazing singer, songwriter) owns two different stores in Nashville; H. Audrey and White's Mercantile.  I'm a huge fan of both and when I saw the below bangles on White's Mercantile instagram page, I had to have one (or two or three).  Not only are they hand stamped, they are a killer price point.  If you're not in Nashville like me, you can order them online here!

A delicious Couscous Salad

I am obsessed with this recipe I found on one of my fave blogger's site.  It is sooo flavorful and delicious!

-1box of near east Parmesan Couscous
-1 jar of sundried tomatoes (save the oil)
-3-4 green onions: chopped
-1 red bell pepper: diced
-kalamata olives: I used a handful
-1 can of chick peas: rinsed and drained
-cherry tomatoes: I used a handful
-1 cucumber: chopped
-2 lemons (juiced)
-pine nuts
-feta

Cook the couscous per the instructions (hello, easiest thing to make EVER). Add in all the veggies.  Pour the oil from the sundried tomatoes in and season with salt and pepper.  Add lemon juice and drizzle a little bit of olive oil over the dish.  Sprinkle with feta cheese, or use as much as you want ;)

Basically cook the couscous and then dump everything else in the bowl and mix-this is what I did and it turned out smashingly well!

A Week Off....

I took a week long break from the blog to celebrate the 4th of July and to just chill at the beach.  My friends Kippy, Andrew and Megan have been coming to my parent's beach house for the 4th of July for over 10 years, it's a favorite tradition of ours and this year baby Hayes joined the fun!  We chilled on the beach, drank on the back porch, celebrated the 4th by attending the parade at the yacht club and enjoying fireworks off the bridge.  It was one of the best celebrations we've had so far, next year will be even more fun with my bestie Kippy having a baby to add to the fun times.

Mama Jill and baby Hayes getting ready for a much needed afternoon nap

Enjoying the back porch-one of my favorite places

A sweet sleeping baby, the back porch and a glass of Caymus, what more do you need?!?!

Celebrating the 4th of July at the Yacht Club with corn-dogs and yogurt...delish!

Thanks Target $1 bin for always supplying great things!

My besties-one of our favorite traditions!

Corn-dog King and Queen......Andrew may have taken 3 to go ;)

Happy 4th of July Weekend

Break out the sparklers, margaritas and cookouts, it's one of my favorite holiday weekends of the year!  Every year, my two besties from childhood, Megan and Kippy along with their significant others and this year baby Hayes meet at my parents beach house for a fun-filled long weekend to celebrate the Red, White & Blue.  Figure 8 Island has a parade every year that ends at the yacht club for cocktails, icees, corndogs and freebies, such as t-shirts and koozies.  I'm super excited that baby Hayes will be along for the ride, probably snoozing her way through the fun, while we mix and mingle.  I hope everyone has a great weekend and takes time to reflect and to be grateful for this wonderful country we live in.  Don't forget your sunscreen ;)

I am Woman, No I will Not Roar........

I've been witness to many conversations lately with a variety of women, but the one point that continues to come up is how extreme some of their points of views seem to sway.  The opinion I don't understand the most and cannot relate to is the, "I hate men" view.  A woman I know literally said, "I hate all men, except my husband."  I cannot relate with the "Man Haters Club," maybe that's due to the men in my family being supportive of successful and strong women, or maybe it has to due with my mother and the strength and grace she has shown when dealing with the men in our family.

I just simply cannot get behind the need to ROAR out that I am a woman.  I am much more of a doer, my actions should speak louder than words.  I am a proud Southern woman who is involved in a number of causes and works in the corporate world, but I do not feel the need to belittle the male species.    My grandmother and I were talking the other day and she was commenting that the women in our family are very strong and that she was so proud of that fact.  I know some of you will disagree with my point of view and that is totally fine, but in the end we all need to champion each other, woman to woman and woman to man.
