Timing

Some things in life are planned and you can see them coming, others not so much, they sneak up and surprise you.  Even seeing it coming, I don't think I truly thought it was going to happen.  My grandmother passed away early Sunday morning and yes we knew it was coming, but it still hit me hard Sunday morning when I found out.  I think no matter how long we have to prepare for losses in any capacity, it still comes as a shock.  For me, a loss reminds me to live my life to the fullest and surround myself with people I love.

Sweet Friday....

This has been a very busy week, but then aren't they all?!?!?  I'm excited to enjoy a big night out with a huge group of my girlfriends on Saturday, we are hitting Uptown for dinner and dancing at the 90s club, which sounds like an ahmazing night to me!  I also have big plans to clean my entire house top to bottom, while listening to some new music.  My new favorite sweet song is by American Young, "Love is War."  I love this song and the lyrics, life is full of lessons learned and lessons to be learned, every moment offers something to make us into better, stronger people.  Cheers to a wonderful, spring weekend!

A Sweet Long Weekend

Friday, I hit the road and joined the fam at the beach house for a long weekend since I took Monday off.  Well let me tell you, my vision of a weekend spent outside enjoying some nice weather was crushed, it rained the whole mother truckin' weekend!  Friday, Mama Jill cooked a fab dinner, which was a fabulous way to jump start the weekend!  Saturday, I was woken up by a baby pterodactyl aka my nephew M3.  He started making this noise that gradually built in volume and length.....this began at 6:30 and then I went and got him out of his pack and play at 8:30.  At first when this pterodactyl noise began, I had no idea where I was or what was making that funky sound, to say I was a bit confused and concerned was an understatement.  Mama Jill, Papa M and I ran around town and ate at Salt Works, but not without Papa M going back and forth on where he wanted to eat and whether or not to be healthy or not.  We stopped at Epic and literally walked in and walked out, it was a little toooo healthy for our blood, think earth mother and lots of sprouts.  Saturday night I met my bestie Kippy at Catch, a delicious seafood spot in Wilmington for dinner, the perfect night of catching up and eating delish food!  Easter Sunday also started out with another morning wake up call from our baby pterodactyl M3 followed by Easter baskets and Easter brunch at the Yacht Club.  I was hoping for an afternoon nap, but between chasing around the sweet babe and having random friends pop by for cocktails, there was no time!  Thank goodness I took Monday off so Mama Jill and I could chill and relax on the deck, since the sun decided to finally show it's face again!

Style

Style

For the most part, my style is pretty preppy, which totally fits me, but I love shocking people by throwing a random piece into my wardrobe.  I have a love affair of all things bohemian inspired, especially the Free People brand.  I think it's wonderful for everyone to have a go-to style, but we can't let ourselves get pigeon-holed into just one signature look, you've got to mix it up!  I bought a dress from Free People when I was in Austin with my friend Sarah, it's out there for me, but that is why I love it and bought it.  I continue to challenge myself to push boundaries in all areas of my life including fashion!

Belles

I am in love with belle skirts, they are just super feminine and flattering!  I am one of those girls who was just born with hips, I swear if my babies don't slide out like crisco I will probably ball my eyes out, because otherwise what in the world are they here for?!?!?!  This shape skirt has such a retro feel, but honestly I don't think it ever goes out of style, I've been wearing them since college and continue to dress them up and down according to the occasion.  If you haven't tried this shape skirt, you definitely should, it looks absolutely fabulous on everyone, which is saying something!!

Milestones

My grandparents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday with all their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren surrounding them.  We had a huge lunch and cake to celebrate this fabulous, sweet couple.  I went to Target to buy them a card and wasn't surprised when I couldn't find a 60 year anniversary card under the milestone section.  These days, long lasting marriages are not the norm, which is such a shame.  My grandparents have 8 children and I know they have had their ups and downs, but at the end of the day, they love each other and they have a very strong love and connection to the family they created.  Cheers to them for being a fabulous couple and wonderful role models!

Hey Friday

Because I wish I still had a spring break, this Luke Bryan song gets me in that state of mind-basically as close to a spring break as I'm getting!  Here is "She Get Me High," one of my new spring jams that gets me in the mood for the beach!  I hope everyone has a great weekend!  Headed to Greensboro to celebrate my grandparent's 60th wedding anniversary....quite the accomplishment!!!

Being a Team Player

For the most part, I am always a team player, always the first to volunteer to do something, however sometimes it just gets to be too much and I start resisting being that team player.  I understand that in life, you have to do things you don't want to do, I am the the princess (my mama is the Queen in all things) of sucking it up and putting on my game face.  Lately,  it's starting to add up and it seems that I am doing more things I don't want to do versus the things I want to do or spend time on.  I guess this is just another part of life, where there are times that you just have to suck it up, put on your smiling face and get over it, because you have to do it.  Here's to being a team player in all facets of life, I'm back in the game after having a somewhat childish three days of resisting.

Hair

One of my new goals is to change it up with the hair.  I chopped my hair off in October and am in the process of growing it back out-this is a trend of mine, chop and grow it out.  I am totally digging all the styles above, especially the messy braids!  Hopefully I will be able to re-create some of these looks!  It's always good to change things up, keep everyone guessing!

Spring Beach Weekend

I spent the weekend with my mama at the beach house.  It was the perfect, quiet, chill weekend!  We enjoyed wine, drives around the island, lots of walks on the beach and just sitting outside enjoying that thing called sunshine!  We had dinner both nights at the yacht club with my sweet cousin Kellie Friday night and then my bestie Kippy Saturday night.  Saturday afternoon, we had blowouts at Blush-it was Mama Jill's first time and she loved it and looked super chic after!  Back to the grind this week....these weekends go by wayyyyy too fast!

Austin

Obvi I had lots of fun in Austin with Sarah, because it has taken me a few days to post about our fab weekend!  I landed in Austin just in time for us to start listening to the Tennessee game-I mean I love Tennessee, but my bestie Sarah takes it to a whole other level!  After Tennessee played their hearts out, but sadly lost, we took our tipsy selves (Sarah made us delish cocktails while watching the game) to Benji's Cantina, a cool tex-mex spot that was two levels.  Lucky for us, we grabbed seats in the bar and noshed down some of the best food ever, I had a chicken enchilada!  According to all my research, we had to hit sixth street, which is exactly what we did.  We went to the Ranch, a two story bar that was open to the perfect weather.  We made friends with the bartender like any smart girl should do and preceded to have the night of our lives.  All throughout this bar were steer heads, deer heads and various other animals-it was quite the Texas atmosphere....which naturally meant I LOVED THAT PLACE!!!  We discovered another level to the Ranch where DJ Silver was blasting out all the country hits, so of course we had to dance a little bit.  We hit the sidewalk in search of our next spot and found the Star bar where we sat on the patio and Sarah preceded to high five every person walking by and pouting when they didn't high five her back-needless to say we made multiple friends!

Saturday, we took ourselves to the Domain, the coolest outdoor shopping area with lots of huge, beautiful trees.  We had lunch at Gloria's another tex-mex spot and then walked around-I was soaking up all the warm weather and sun I could!  While at Gloria's, we had the brilliant idea to see if we could snag seats to the iheart country radio concert later that night....and as luck would have it, we found two!  We walked to the concert and were blown away by the amount of acts that played-Lady Antebellum, Eric Church, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Jake Owen to name a few.  After a whirlwind concert that lasted until 12:30am we hit the hotel and noshed on late night food.  To end our whirlwind weekend, we had brunch at Searsucker-the coolest spot EVER. It was open, airy and very restoration hardware and they killed it with their smoked pepper bacon!  If you ever get the chance, head on down to Austin!!!
